Apprenticeships – An Amazing Experience

My experience as an apprentice at Meadowhall was amazing. I became more confident and developed skills I didn’t know that I had. I got to work with a great team and made lifelong friends.

Before starting my apprenticeship at Meadowhall, I studied Travel and Tourism at Barnsley College. I was interested in the apprenticeship because I wanted to gain work experience in customer service and build up my confidence. 

When I found out about getting the position at Meadowhall, I was extremely happy. I couldn’t wait to start! I began my Level 2 Customer Service NVQ apprenticeship at Meadowhall in March 2015. 

Through my apprenticeship, I worked on all three service desks at Meadowhall, interacting with customers and assisting people with every need. I also got to work with the marketing team when the Centre had events on, such as the Christmas Concert, Ladies Night and Student Night. I found these very interesting and fun, and they’ve made me think about a career in events one day.

Plus, I become a part of Meadowhall’s family circle, where members from each department discuss any issues in our team and talk about plans for the Centre. I was supported throughout my apprenticeship by my assessor from The Source Skills Academy.

I still work at Meadowhall and I love it. I couldn’t see myself working anywhere else at this moment in time. Next, I hope to progress onto a permanent contract with Meadowhall.

Starting an apprenticeship was the best thing I did. I learned so much in just 12 months. It also made me more confident as a person and much more independent. I expected great things and I was shown and learned great things.
