Sustainability at Head Office
By working in partnership, we have reduced British Land controlled energy use at York House by 32%.
British Land, Broadgate Estates, Bunzl, Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (London Office) Pte Ltd, hurleypalmerflatt and Moor Park Capital Partners LLP, have all signed a Carbon Reduction Memorandum of Understanding. We meet quarterly to review resource use performance and agree initiatives to improve energy efficiency.
Our performance 2009/10
- We reduced British Land controlled energy use by 32%, saving nearly 1 million kWh of energy, an estimated £50,000 on energy bills and 350 tonnes of carbon.
- Our occupiers reduced electricity use in their areas by 8%, saving a further 128,000 kWh, an estimated £11,000 on their energy bills and 70 tonnes of carbon.
- We recycled 70% of all managed waste, a significant improvement from 40% last year, with 98% of all waste diverted from landfill through a combination of recycling and incineration.
We also have an active Staff Environmental Working Group which is bringing about positive change by raising environmental awareness and improving communication with our Head Office team on environmental issues.
