We monitor our progress closely and set appropriately challenging targets, as well as comparing our performance to our peers.

British Land was the Real Estate Sector Leader in the Oekom Corporate Responsibility Review 2010. We are listed on both the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the FTSE4Good Index. In 2009, we signed up to the UN Global Compact.

Natural resources: British Land was recognised as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations 2009 and included in The Sunday Times 60 Best Green Companies Index 2010, for the second year running. In 2009, we signed up to the WRAP Halving Waste to Landfill Commitment.

Customers: British Land achieved the top quartile on the RealService Best Practice Index of customer service 2009, for the second year. We consistently outperform the industry average, as measured through the Occupier Satisfaction Index. In 2009, all of our retail properties audited by the Property Managers Association achieved Service Charge Code Awards of Gold or better.

Communities: We are members of the London Benchmarking Group for community investment, using their comprehensive and consistent set of measures to report our community engagement programme.

Staff and suppliers: In 2010, we signed up the Government’s new Prompt Payment Code. We will also participate in the Corporate Health and Safety Performance Index.
