At our developments
We contributed £11.2 million to local infrastructure and initiatives through the planning process.
This included improving public areas, enhancing pedestrian links, and developing affordable housing and community facilities. Exciting new public artworks at Regent’s Place include ‘The Pavilion’ by Carmody Groarke, ‘Ruth Walking in Jeans’ by Julian Opie and ‘A Couple of Ripe, Ornamental Pineapples’ by Siôn Parkinson.
We undertake in-depth stakeholder consultation on all our major developments to ensure that our developments meet local needs. Our masterplans for Canada Water, Regent’s Place and the River Don District are expected to generate 12,000 jobs once completed, many targeted at local people. The forecast regional economic benefit each year from our River Don District Masterplan when completed is £180 million.
At Canada Water in London’s Docklands, works are due to begin in October 2010 on the new public square to complete in time for the opening of the new library in March 2011. This square occupies a key location between the tube and bus stations, the library which is under construction, and development sites A and B. It is named Deal Porter Square in memory of the thousands of local people employed as porters to unload deal wood in the old docks.
