British Land has been awarded the accolade “Sustainable Developer of the Year” in the annual Building Sustainability Awards.
The awards, now in their third year, recognise outstanding sustainability achievements and showcase the strides many are taking in the sector to lessen the industry’s environment impact.
The judges said: “British Land’s bold vision of achieving carbon neutrality in 2008/2009 is just one of the many reasons why it has stood out from the crowd. A runner up in last year’s competition, it has continued to up its game with sustainability at the heart of all its projects ensuring that reductions in water usage, waste to landfill and carbon emissions are enforced at all its projects. “

- British Land is the largest UK REIT by assets (£15.9 billion) with total assets under management of £20 billion, as at September 30, 2007.
- The portfolio, focused on the growth sectors of London Offices and Out of Town Retail, has the longest leases (14.4 years) and the highest occupancy rate (99 percent) of the major UK REITs.
