Driving retail performance
UK retailers voted British Land the Property Managers Association's Landlord of the Year 2009.
To continue to increase footfall and ensure quality of service, centre management is critical on our shopping parks. We provide cost-effective centre management by exploiting our portfolio size, deploying Regional Centre Managers across a number of parks.
In 2009 we are continuing to fund the introduction of centre management at over 30 parks and are monitoring the impact on footfall and park performance.
Initiatives by our Regional Centre Managers to increase footfall and drive retail performance include:
- Extending and improving consistency of trading hours
- Undertaking regular visits with Store Managers to understand and resolve site-specific issues
- Managing staff parking
- Enhancing traffic flow and public transport links
- Improving security and coordinating emergency responses
- Building and promoting park brands
- Developing community links.
By ensuring sites are operated in line with retailers’ needs, our Regional Centre Managers have helped to increase footfall by 3%* against a general market decline. Our challenge now is to maintain and enhance this trend.
