Our commitment to the Lease Code

We support the aims and objectives of The Code of Practice for Commercial Leases in England and Wales 2007

Our leases and Heads of Terms comply with the spirit of the Lease Code. We encourage all our employees, agents and lawyers acting on our behalf to take a proactive approach to supporting the Code and to raising awareness of its existence with prospective occupiers.

We provide prospective occupiers with:

  • The agreed Heads of Terms for the letting. This is a summary of the agreement between British Land and the prospective occupier and is used to instruct lawyers to produce the formal lease.
  • A detailed statement outlining our approach to the Code. This clearly sets expectations for the occupier and gives explanations for the positions we have adopted to comply with the Code.
  • Our complaints procedure. This explains how a complaint should be made, who will review the complaint and how long resolution should take.
