We have Travel Plans for many of our properties including Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield and Regent’s Place in London.
Broadgate, in the City of London, has excellent public transport facilities and is served by Liverpool Street station which provides mainline train services, four underground lines and a bus station. There are bicycle parking spaces throughout Broadgate and several of the properties now have shower and locker facilities to make it easier for people to cycle to work. Occupiers can also get access to live travel information via www.vicinitee.com .
At Meadowhall there is a dedicated Passenger Transport Interchange, offering excellent public transport links with Sheffield city centre, neighbouring towns and villages and the major suburbs. The purpose-built Passenger Transport Interchange is served by up to 400 trains per day, over 120 buses per hour, and a tram every 10 minutes. The Centre also has a dedicated Travel Plan Manager.
At Regent’s Place we have been encouraging sustainable travel since 2001 when we developed a Travel Plan to reduce emissions and make the area more pleasant for occupiers’ employees, local people and visitors as well as safer for pedestrians. Between 2000 and 2003 cycling to work in Regent’s Place increased by 50% and car use halved. In 2002 the Plan featured in the Government’s best practice guidelines for travel plans. In 2006 we developed two new Travel Plans for Regent’s Place to take into account the changes to the area and the use of transport over the last few years.
“An integrated, sustainable approach to travel is definitely a positive. It’s important to us that it is easy for our employees to get to and from work. Thanks to the public transport links and cycle lanes provided many of our people are able to travel to work by bus or bicycle rather than by car. This makes the business park more accessible to people who do not have their own transport and is also good for the environment, reducing carbon emissions.”
At Eastgate Shopping Centre in Basildon retailers and their employees have free use of bikes through the Bikeability scheme.
