Stakeholder feedback

The opinions of our stakeholders informed the development of our Building Together strategy.

In 2007 we commissioned Kingsley Lipsey Morgan to independently research stakeholder opinion on our corporate responsibility programme, to inform the shape of the programme going forward. Stakeholders gave feedback on priority areas for 2008, their perceptions of our performance on corporate responsibility issues and their trust in our reporting.

67 people were involved from the following stakeholder groups:
  • British Land managers, employees and site based staff
  • Suppliers, including building contractors and managing agents
  • Investors, including individual shareholders, SRI analysts and corporate investors
  • Central government and local authorities
  • Community members and organisations.

Stakeholders are impressed by British Land's genuine commitment and serious approach to corporate responsibility, and almost all say that they trust British Land's reporting of its corporate responsibility performance.

Feedback from 40 occupiers gathered as part of an additional independent research project during February and March 2007 was also taken into account. Visit our Occupiers’ Survey microsite to find out more.

The overall findings of the research were positive and encouraging. Opportunities to improve performance and communications were identified. The key themes emerging from the research were:
  • A desire amongst certain stakeholder groups for more regular, less formal communication on corporate responsibility
  • The need to embed the senior level commitment to corporate responsibility throughout the company
  • More sharing of best practice with site-based staff and managing agents
  • Potential for obtaining 'buy-in' to the programme, particularly from occupiers
  • Achieving greater consistency in corporate responsibility initiatives across the British Land portfolio.

This feedback has informed the development of our Building Together strategy which seeks to embed corporate responsibility, improve communication, encourage the sharing of best practice, support engagement with occupiers and ensure greater consistency.
