During 2007 our property management teams worked increasingly closely with their suppliers of waste management and cleaning services on-site to reduce waste and increase recycling. Not only do these initiatives lessen our impact on the environment and save valuable resources, they also often cut disposal and transport costs.
GBM Cleaning Services manages Regent's Place occupier waste removal. In 2007 they helped the Regent’s Place team to increase recycling and reduce waste to landfill, thanks to their enthusiasm and ‘no problem’ attitude combined with their understanding of the waste management system and local knowledge. They have also reduced contaminated waste by providing dual language signage with imagery to describe waste segregation to overcome language barriers. In 2007 85% of the 612 tonnes of waste removed from the office estate was recycled.
In 2007 the team at the Peacocks Centre continued working with cleaning services suppliers, London Property Maintenance, to improve environmental performance. By washing and re-using microfibre cleaning cloths and mop heads in their energy efficient washing machine the team has reduced waste to landfill and the need to purchase new cloths. By using concentrated cleaning chemicals diluted on-site the team has further reduced waste, as well as halving the number of deliveries.
Over the last 12 months there has been a significant improvement in peoples' attitude to wanting to make a difference, making our job easier. It is a promising start and we are looking forward to progressing further.

Lancaster Office Cleaning Company has been a key partner in the success of the recycling scheme at Broadgate. In 2007 they worked to ensure that contamination of the recyclable streams was kept to a minimum and worked flexibly to fit in ‘impromptu’ collections when clients have larger amounts of recyclables than usual. This helped Broadgate occupiers to recycle around 800 tonnes of glass and cardboard in 2007.
