By dividing the number of accidents by the number of hours worked on our developments and refurbishments we generate Accident Frequency Rates (AFR)*, enabling comparison with our performance in previous years and the performance of other companies. The rate for lost day accidents decreased from 0.57 in 2006/07 to 0.12 in 2007/08; a reduction of 79%. The frequency rate for reportable accidents decreased from 0.44 in 2006/07 to 0.19 in 2007/08; a reduction of 57%. The total number of man hours worked increased from 3.8 million in 2006/07 to 4.1 million in 2007/08; a rise of nearly 8%.

At our Puerto Venecia development in Spain an independent health and safety audit has been carried out by the law firm, Uría and Menéndez.
In 2007 Bovis Lend Lease established a programme of initiatives at Osnaburgh Street to make the project as safe as possible by targeting specific areas of risk, such as working at height.
In 2007 the Ropemaker team celebrated 250,000 man hours without a reportable accident. They are now trialling new steel frame erecting equipment to promote safe working at height.
