Back to British Land Corporate Site

Engagement

Listening and responding to our people and suppliers

26 of our Head Office staff and members of our on-site teams participated in an independent research study in 2007 to provide feedback on our approach to corporate responsibility. Participants identified that we have made progress in a number of areas and are generally highly regarded. They also stated that we need to do more to embed corporate responsibility at all levels of the company and across all areas of the business. We also need to work more closely with our staff, occupiers and suppliers to achieve a common set of goals and objectives.

Feedback from our people contributed to the development of our Building Together corporate responsibility programme. In March 2008 we published an employee information sheet on Building Together and distributed it to everybody at our Head Office. Peter Clarke, Executive Officer, also provided training sessions on the programme for our Asset Management team and property management teams at Broadgate and Regent’s Place. Our targets for 2008/09 include communicating the results and achievements to our staff.

Participants of the 'administrator group' express pride in the steps taken to reduce waste and conserve resources at York House. They are also proud of their involvement in local community work, such as assisting with reading at Netley Primary School.

Stakeholder Research Report 2007

Respondents in the ‘executive group’ feel that British Land is practising what it preaches at York House, and describe the building as a 'big statement'. They also think that British Land should select fewer priorities and apply them across the wider portfolio.

Stakeholder Research Report 2007

In June 2007 we brought together our Asset Managers, local property management teams and managing agents to discuss property management issues. 27 people attended this Property Management Forum, which was held at Glasgow Fort Shopping Park. The forum provided a valuable opportunity for our property management teams to work together and share best practice, discussing Head Office commitments as well as on-site initiatives. All attendees stated that they had found the forum useful and would be implementing initiatives subsequently.
