Building Together awards

Recognising the corporate responsibility achievements of our suppliers, occupiers and employees.

We thank our people and business partners for their continued efforts to initiate, innovate and share best practice in corporate responsibility at our properties and developments.

Our use of resources

For managing our environmental impacts relating to energy, water, waste, sustainable travel or overall carbon emissions

  • Broadgate for Recycling: all Broadgate buildings are now participating in recycling schemes. In 2007 they have recycled around 800 tonnes of glass and cardboard, saving over 100 tonnes of carbon emissions and approximately £45,000 on compactor collections.
  • Meadowhall Shopping Centre for Energy Efficiency: thanks to energy efficiency initiatives, over the last four years electricity use in the Centre has reduced by 14%, reducing associated carbon emissions by over 990 tonnes.
  • Eastgate Shopping Centre for Water Harvesting: as well as introducing a number of water saving initiatives the team has installed a 20,000 litre tank to store rainwater that is used to flush toilets and urinals, reducing the mains water required by over 25%.
  • Meadowhall Shopping Centre for Water Efficiency: the team has already installed rainwater harvesting tanks, reducing mains water use by 20%, with plans now in place for borehole water collection to further reduce mains water use.
