The Supply Chain Working Group provided a corporate responsibility training presentation to all our Head Office employees during December 2006.
This included:
- Information on corporate responsibility risks when procuring furniture, cleaning services and landscaping
- Guidance on our approach to gathering relevant information in a user-friendly way
- The principles of our approach, which include corporate responsibility issues being incorporated into decision-making processes, and that our intention is to promote real change, not simply to tick boxes.
All recipients were supplied with the contact details of the Corporate Responsibility Executive for questions or comments.
The team at Peacocks Shopping Centre has been working with cleaning services suppliers, London Property Maintenance to improve environmental performance. All cleaners are now using microfibre mops and cloths to minimise the need for cleaning chemicals. They are re-using microfibre cloths and sourcing concentrated chemicals to reduce plastic waste by an estimated 90%. The cleaning contractors are monitoring carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles with the target of reducing emissions by 5%-8% per annum.
In 2007 we will review our current Corporate Responsibility and Procurement Policy and consider integrating it within our Group Procurement Policy.
