British Land doesn’t just invest in property, we also invest in our people. We offer competitive remuneration packages, an attractive, stimulating working environment and a great opportunity for personal and career development.
British Land is based in London’s West End, close to Marble Arch. Our head office, York House, is a modern office with all the facilities and support you’d expect from one of our properties, including a bike store and shower/changing rooms for those employees who wish to cycle to work.
Our culture reflects how we work as a business. As a company with a relatively small head office team, all our employees are encouraged to get involved and take responsibility. It’s a friendly and open environment, one that supports an entrepreneurial approach and people who want to make things happen and make a difference.
Training and development
To help people make the most of their potential with us, we provide support and training, where appropriate, for all our employees.
Training needs are formally assessed as part of the appraisal process. In 2009, we recorded 672 hours of training and development, including training in IT packages, financial modelling and presentation skills. Our appraisals also include a 360° feedback process.
Community investment
As part of our commitment to the communities close to our properties and developments, we encourage our employees to get involved with voluntary projects.
27% of our head office team took part in volunteering projects during 2009-10. These projects included painting an outdoor area at Netley Primary School and conservation work at Waterlow Park, both near our property at Regent’s Place. We provide time off for such initiatives and also support the efforts of our employees to raise money and awareness for good causes.
